2013

My nephew, Caleb and I spent a lot of time taking photographs, pulling silly faces and what not.

Seeing Frightened Rabbit pretty much made my life.

I saw my cousins on my fathers side a lot more than I usually do. It's a shame I don't see them more.

Went to Godiva Festival in Coventry and spend the weekend boiling in the heat, but I got to see Mallory Knox and Devlin, so it was definitely worth it.

My family and I went over to Ireland for a week, we visited family and it was just lovely to get away for a bit. I also got to see loads of cows which I was pretty happy about.

Had a fair few nights out with my best friends. We aren't ones for taking many photos, hence why 3/4 of these are of Ciara and I.

Had a great day at the Irish Centre watching Gaelic football with my family, in particular my sister. She's my best friend and mini-me.

Had a few trips, stuck to keeping them local as being students we're all skint. We went to Worcester, Lichfield, Coventry and most recently Warwick.

In September I was reunited with the the girls from uni and we moved into our house together. I've loved living with friends and I'm excited to go back in the New Year.

And the year was (almost) finished off with a great Christmas!

2013 has been an interesting year for me. It's definitely had its highs and lows. I started the year having completed my first term at university and excited to go back to see my friends there. In February I got to see Frightened Rabbit and then again in November. I can safely say I spent a lot of money on vodka, clothes and just general rubbish I didn't need. I went to Godiva festival which was brilliant and also went to Ireland for the first time in years. I got my second tattoo and a few more piercings. I took a few trips to various places with my friends. I passed my first year of university and moved into my house in Southampton to start second year. I'm getting ever closer to getting rid of my braces and I took the step to being vegetarian in January, which has now progressed to Vegan. I also had a few bad times, which resulted in my feeling quite down and lonely, but looking back on it, I've decided that I will try and have a more positive outlook on life, see the best in things and not worry as much about things that aren't that important.

I hope everyone has had a great 2013 and 2014 is even better!
Happy New Year! X

Week In Pictures #52: All we are is broken

Up until today, I was having a great week. Seeing family and friends, both while drinking lots of vodka. Now that Christmas is over, university deadlines are closer than ever and I'm some what stressed about them.
1. Mazi was being cuter than normal. 2. Vegan mince pies. 3. Frightened Rabbit Christmas.
4. Boxing Day Outfit. 5. Boxing day selfie. 6. Lunch with the girls.

Christmas Time

Hello lovelies! I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas!
I certainly did, despite starting the day with a slight hangover.
I got to see my family, eat great food and received some lovely gifts.

My vegan Christmas dinner.

Some of lovely gifts I got from my parents and siblings, all of which I am extremely grateful for and love!

Mazi the cat isn't quite as into Christmas as Connor is.

I love Christmas time, everyone seems to be in a good mood, despite how stressful it actually is at this time of year. Everyone seemed to like the presents I bought for them, which I'm chuffed about.
Let's hope next year is just as good!

Week In Pictures #51: Straight through the forest and out on to the road

I'm pretty sure everyone has said this at least once recently, but seriously, how is it nearly Christmas already? Thankfully I've finished my Christmas shopping, so I haven't had to brave the crowds in last minute shopping. I've spent this week catching up with friends and unfortunately avoiding doing any uni work. I keep thinking I have ages till it's due in, but in actual fact I only have two weeks!

1. Family get together. 2. Decorating the tree. 3. Natural hair.
4. Idc, this hairstyle is cute. 5.  6. B. Make-up.
7. Sorting through photographs. 8. Forever spending money I don't have to spare.

Barry M Flawless Matte Finish Foundation

It seems I can never stick to one brand of foundation, I always seem to find something wrong with the one I'm using. My previous foundation was good, but the colour didn't match my skin that well and I was unable to find the lighter colour in Superdrug when I went to get it. Instead, I picked up Barry M's Flawless Matte Foundation in Ivory. I've been on the look out for make-up which isn't tested on animals and doesn't contain animal products. I already knew Barry M didn't test on animals and I was happy to discover it's suitable for Vegans. The foundation contains 'soothing moisturises', which is great considering the winter weather is never good to my skin. The colour matches my skin pretty perfectly as far as I can tell and although the coverage is rather light, it is buildable. It cost me £5.99 in Superdrug, which is an average price for high-street beauty products, so no complaints there. Overall, I'm happy with this product, I'm just hoping I don't discover any negatives with it in the future, because this foundation search has been on going since I started wearing make-up and it's getting a little bit boring!

My last week in Southampton consisted of an early Christmas day, last minute article writing and watching films with my housemates. I travelled home on Friday, I've spent the weekend chilling out and seeing family, tomorrow the work continues.
1. Missing my sister like crazy. 2. Secret Santa Presents. 3. Article writing.
4. Random drawing. 5. Pumpkin before he attacked me. 6. New Shirt.

Christmas at Kenilworth

What's better than one Christmas a year? Two, of course.
This year is mine and my housemates first Christmas in our house, so it's only right we celebrate Christmas together. As we all have deadlines and are going home this weekend, last Sunday we decided was our Christmas day.

Me, Louise W, Faye, Louise B                                                                                     Thanks for Faye for the photo
Of course we all wore our Christmas jumpers for the day.

We had planned to all have breakfast together, drinking Bucks Fizz and eating fry-up food, but unfortunately we were unable to, however Faye, Louise and I did manage to sit down for breakfast together. I went for Spaghetti on toast and Louise was lovely enough to give us all Christmas cards.

After dinner and having all got ready, we set the table.

and had a last minute dash up to the the shop for Christmas crackers.

This was our first attempt at a Sunday roast, made more difficult by the fact Louise W and I are vegetarian and I was having Vegan yorkshire puddings, so I'm really impressed that we managed to pull this off and get the timings just right. It was the first roast dinner I've enjoyed for a very long time.

After dinner we swapped presents. We decided to do secret Santa, because well, we can hardly afford to buy for everyone. Louise W had me and bought me these goodies. So lovely of her to go out of her way to get my dairy free chocolate, Jelly Tots which are my absolute favourite and Coconut shower products from The Body Shop.

After present swapping, we sat down to play Cludeo. I was a little confused at first, it's not how I remember it, as it turns out this is the children's version, however I think it's actually more complicated than the original.

No one won the game of Cludeo, I thought I'd worked out who it was, ended up being wrong but by then we'd checked the solution and everyone knew who'd done it! So, we thought it was about time for dessert. Vegan Chocolate cake with chocolate butter icing.

followed by a Vegan Apple and Blackberry crumble.

With our stomachs full and all of us feeling rather tired, we went to the living room and put on a Love Actually. I'd never seen this before, despite everyone constantly going on about how it's one of those films you have to see.

We all had such a good 'Christmas' and we even had the boxing day blues the day afterwards.
Luckily for us, we have another Christmas day to look forward to that's just two weeks away!

Decembers The Vegan Kind Monthly Subscription Box

Since switching to a vegan diet, I've been browsing the web a lot trying to find recipes and what not, which led me to find 'The Vegan Kind'. TVK is a monthly subscription box, filled with 5- 8 vegan products such as make up, food, drink, household items, etc. for just £10 a month plus £2.95 p&p. I had a quick look at the FAQs before ordering and found that if you're a blogger you can email bloggers@thevegankind.com and if there are any opportunities available, Karris (the owner) will let you know. I did this and she was lovely enough to send me a box free of charge! I just had to pay for the p&p.

When my box was delivered, I was really excited to see what was in a it and opened it straight away. After a quick look through the items, I of course had to try the Arbonne bar. I found the bar a little dry, so I dipped it in my tea and that definitely helped.  My housemates and I then tried the Freedom Mallows. We all said the taste was exactly like non-vegan marshmallows, while the texture was slightly different it wasn't bad. One of housemates was immediately online to order some for herself, so I'd say they're a definite winner!

The Yaoh Lipbalm came at just the right time, as the cold weather hasn't been good to my lips, it's mango flavour so it's smells and tastes great haha! I'm yet to use the Dr. Bronners Soap, but I will do soon and I'm particularly please it's suited to sensitive skin. The snowflake was a nice little touch and was stuck up on my bedroom door alongside a glittery reindeer that's there also.
I used the Green Frog Cleaner to clean my kitchen and bathroom and the first thing I noticed was the smell. It doesn't have that typical cleaning product smell, but an actually quite pleasant scent. I haven't used the Mendill Towelettes yet as I don't want to waste them, but I know they'll come in handy. I often get the urge to wash my hands, so these will useful for when I'm out and about.
Overall I'm really pleased with the box and will be continuing my subscription. The products are guaranteed to be worth over £10, so you'll never be losing out on money and it's a great way to find out about cruelty free brands.

You can find The Vegan Kind on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Youtube.

The Christmas Tag

After University today I went to the shop to pick up some candy canes. I decided that it was time I made my room a little bit more festive, I even put a little woolly hat on my deer.
I've seen this tag going around for the past week, so I thought that seen as I've tried to make my room more Christmassy, I'd do the same for my blog.

Do you prefer a real Christmas tree or synthetic?
Me and my family have never had a real Christmas tree, which I guess is because real ones are messy, in which I'm going to say I prefer synthetic ones.

You're in a coffee shop, it's December, what do you pick?
I'm going to be really boring and say tea. I hate coffee and I've only ever tried a Hazelnut Hot Chocolate from Stabucks, which I didn't like :(

Whats your favourite colour scheme for decorating the tree?
Blue and White, it may not be traditional, but it feels more wintery to me compared to red and gold.

Giving or receiving?
Both are great, but I really do love buying gifts for others.
I always end up spending more than I plan to buying things for other people.

To mince pie or not to?
To mince pie!
I tried one for the first time this year (in my younger years I thought they had mince meat in) and I am now definitely a fan.

What's your traditional Sunday lunch?
Chicken, stuffing, roast potatoes, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, mash potato and gravy.
Well that's what my mother cooks, I don't like mash or Cauliflower and as I'm now eating a vegan diet, I won't be having any chicken. I'll probably have veggie sausages as a substitute.

What's your favourite Christmas song?
The Pogues - Fairytale of New York
Always and forever will this be my favourite Xmas song.
What's your favourite Christmas film?
Home Alone or Elf.

Open presents before or after lunch?
We usually open presents  before breakfast!

What time of the year do you start your Christmas shopping?
I tend to start thinking about it in October and from there I'll order or buy the odd thing. The bulk is still usually done in December.

Tell me how Christmas goes down in your home
Well, when me and my siblings were younger, we would obviously wake up much earlier and drag our parents downstairs, however the last few years my mother has had to wake us up.
We look through our stockings that my mother leaves in our rooms for us and then go downstairs and have a cup of tea. Once we're all in the living room, I usually sit by the presents and hand them out to everyone.
Once they're all opened, we take our things upstairs and tidy the living room. My mother will start dinner while we all get ready, then I set the table and we sit down for dinner and dessert
In the evening we usually go to a relatives house, but that sometimes waits until Boxing day.
Do you have any Christmas traditions?
I'd say getting our stockings is our tradition.
Ever since I can remember my mother has made us one filled with sweets, chocolate, toiletries and other random bits and bobs. I think she originally did them so that she'd get extra time to sleep while we looked through them.
What do you do on Christmas Eve?
Christmas Eve isn't much different to any other night in out house. We all just sit around, watch TV etc. Last year I spent Xmas Eve in the pub for a friends birthday and I suspect this year will be the same.

What's your Christmas wrapping strategy? Do you have a strategy?
I don't have a strategy, but apparently I'm pretty good at wrapping. My mother takes advantage of this and I end up wrapping all the majority of the presents she's bought for people. Luckily I don't mind!

What's your dream gift this year?
I can't think of anything that is an absolute must in my life right now.
I guess I'd love a new laptop, but I know that's out of my Xmas present budget.

Do you decorate just the tree or other areas of your house e.g. windows, bannisters?
In my house in Southampton we've decorated the living room, kitchen and hallways, as well as us having a few little Christmassy things in our rooms. At home we tend to decorate the tree, have a wreath on the front door and tinsel on the bannister.

We made our gnomes into elves and theyre so cute!

What do you wear to Christmas parties and what do you wear on Christmas day?
On Christmas day I tend to wear a normal day outfit, nothing special.
For family get-togethers I'll wear jeans and a blouse or a casual dress.

Hope you all enjoy the run up to Christmas and have a great Christmas day!

Week In Pictures #48: Quiet little voices creep into my head.

Can't believe it's December already, this year has gone by so quick. My and my housemates put up our Christmas decorations earlier this week and they look so cute, we're having our own Christmas day this time next week.

1. Smoothie making. 2. Healthy crisps?  3. Christmas decorating.
4. Hangover food (couldn't actually finish it) 5. Advent calendar. 6. Sketching at 2am.
