Language

I'm in need of a bit of help from my followers, or anyone who comes across my blog!

As part of my uni course, one unit is looking at language and how it's changed.
The actual essay question is:
Where do we go from here?
Explore and analyse the evolution and future of the English language
I really want to write and include the world of blogging into it, just so it's a bit more interesting for me to write! That's where you guys come into it, if you could leave your name, age and blog url in a comment below and answer all, or at least some of the follow questions, then I will be beyond grateful!

1. What's your opinion on abbreviations 'omg, lol' being used in a non social-networking place? e.g magazines.
2. Do you think there is a certain time and place when abbreviations are acceptable?
3. How do you feel blogs should be written? Formal, informal/chatty?
4. If you have another blog, e.g tumblr, is you writing style different on that blog, than it is on blogspot?
5. How do you think language is evolving? Is it changing for the better?
6. Do you always/never use punctuation, whether it be texting/blogging/tweeting? Why?
7. Do you use slang? If so, is that in face-to-face conversation/texting/tweeting/blogging etc?

Thank you to anyone who takes the time to help me out!

  1. 1. What's your opinion on abbreviations 'omg, lol' being used in a non social-networking place? e.g magazines.  I think its embarassing and it makes me cringe !
Do you think there is a certain time and place when abbreviations are acceptable? Yes, in professional environments
If you have another blog, e.g tumblr, is you writing style different on that blog, than it is on blogspot? I have a tumblr but I don't write on it .
How do you think language is evolving? Is it changing for the better? I think its changing for the worst, I like it on the period dramas where they all speak properly.
    6. Do you always/never use punctuation, whether it be texting/blogging/tweeting? Why? I always try to use punctuation
Do you use slang? If so, is that in face-to-face conversation/texting/tweeting/blogging etc? Sometimes on text if in a rush. Or as a joke when with friends

  2. 1. I think they are handy to use when texting but when said in public through talking it's a bit cringy.
    2. Abbreviations like 'lol' or 'omg' are fine for social networking sites or through text I think.
3.I don't really write on my Tumblr but if I do they are more statements than a full on writing post.
4.People ted to use less formal language now i suppose and it seems to be ok because so many people speak like it but i would much prefer to speak to somebody and be able to understand what they are saying:L
5.It depends how i'm writing and and who i'm writing to but i do try and use the correct punctuation.
6.I use slang as a joke sometimes but i'd like to think i speak quite clearly and use real words.

    Hope this was ok:)

  5. 1. What's your opinion on abbreviations 'omg, lol' being used in a non social-networking place? e.g magazines.
Horrendous, unless it's an article on the subject.

    2. Do you think there is a certain time and place when abbreviations are acceptable?
yes, on tumblr when you're just being a dork.

    3. How do you feel blogs should be written? Formal, informal/chatty?
Totally depends on the type of blog, if it's a personal diary type blog it can be as informal as you like, (personally I like to see proper english) but if it's an informative blog it should be formal.

    4. If you have another blog, e.g tumblr, is you writing style different on that blog, than it is on blogspot?
yes, on tumblr I use all the internet slang I know when it's about fandom stuff, but sometimes on important subjects where I want to really contribute i'll use proper english.

    5. How do you think language is evolving? Is it changing for the better?
It depends how you look at it, people have to be able to communicate, but if we all use slang to do this we could lose literature and our ability to read this literature. (I know I find it hard to read classic books, unless it's a modernized language version)

    6. Do you always/never use punctuation, whether it be texting/blogging/tweeting? Why?
I always use punctuation, unless i'm being a dork on tumblr

    7. Do you use slang? If so, is that in face-to-face conversation/texting/tweeting/blogging etc?
I need to stop. I use some slang like lol, omg etc when talking to my close friends, in a joke-y way, but I don't use much slang when talking to people i don't know
